Today we are shooting in a mutton stall. Mukyamantri chandru is the butcher. He is advising me and S.Narayan how to trap a rich girl and settle in life.
I am sitting on a wooden bench with 4 huge sheep without head feet or skin.

Coming from a pure vegetarian family this sight is new to me. As kids I remember my mom avoiding a road because it had a mutton shop and taking deviation via a parallel street. Here I am in makeup surrounded by meat of all kinds. The owner was explaining how a liver kidney and intestines look. S.Narayan was telling me health benefits of eating 'tale mamsa'. The assistant was cutting the meat into little pieces called Kheema. There was an apron stained with blood hanging next to me.!

The dialogue was apt too. Chandru says "kayakave Vaikunta". I correct it and say "adu kayakave Kailasa "...truly work is worship...

My work as actor takes me to every kind of location.. One day we shoot in butcher shop one day in KalyanMantap next in jail and a graveyard or himalayas or a beautiful beach. That's best part of being an actor. You are a part of every world. You live life in instalments. Glad to be an actor!

Wannabe a millionaire?
Dubai with its awesome airport, malls, skyscrapers also has its big spread of rich and super rich.I went there to direct and perform in a starshow .Oneof the patrons was kind enough to invite me to his kingly mansion.Right at the gate a ferrari,a rolls royce,a lamborgini were parked underlining the opulence of the owner. He was warm ,hospitable and charming.
All along I wanted to ask a simple question "How does one become a millionaire ?"but resisted.
Over tea conversations I casually asked" Does your son want to follow your footsteps in real estate?"
He told me an eye opener of a tale.
His 14 yr old son had wanted to follow his dad.Last school holidays ,he volunteered to train in dad's office. Our millionaire agreed gladly. On day one of training the young boy ,dressed smart, walked into dad's office, sat on dad's chair and inquired with dad's secretary what he was supposed to do.
The secretary, totally clueless ,phoned our richman who was in a meeting elsewhere.
The richman instucted his son first to get off the leather chair ,walk to office corner sit by copying machine and supervise the xeroxes being done.
The boy was zapped."But why?" he asked.
"Every page wasted on xerox machine costs us 50paise.If you can learn saving 50 paises you automatically learn saving millions"was the cool reply.
The boy got his answer and so did I -for my unasked question.

Whatever it is make it look like Fun!

Another method leaves you tired, irritated,or bored..The best success stories happened because someone was having fun doing it.Not as work or paid job but for sheer joy of doing it.so the trick is to learn to make it fun thing to do or better yet choose something you enjoy doing.

Trust is superglue of everything!

Particularly when super fragile items like emotions, relationships, friendship are involved.Didn't we see wars and wipeouts germinate from a small almost invisible doubt growing gigantic in size in a wink and raze down everything built over years?didn't we see messy divorces and homes torn apart again from the microscopic doubt inflating to million times its original size in time?So instead of letting it all crumble, embrace trust -the greatest superglue of all time:)

What if...?!

What if world was actually round and not flat?
What if there is no other way but down for an apple ?
What if there was a doomed love story on that sinking ship?
So every great idea started as a small wonder in someone's mind.A small question What if..?Your turn now.Just ask the same 2 words for or against anything you don't understand or think you do and presto! The next Newton or JamesCameron has arrived.Ideas time ladies and gentlemen.

Harvest fest.!

Did you watch the news?A farmer in Thailand planted brinjal seeds and his whole field is filled with coconut trees! In the same week reports from Africa indicate watermelons growing in fields where pumpkin seeds were sown. The third one from northpole where nothing can grow boasting full field of healthy corn.In sahara...ok ok I can hear you scream Oh shutup that's impossible.Exactly all great religions and all great masters say the same thing You reap what you sow.surely you can't sow bittergourd expecting sugarcane in return.By the way how's your wife doing?Did that old friend call?

Sing dance leap laugh chill rejoice you are the world.

The other option is to crib, complain, fret, fume, frown, regret. Well..you don't have to be a binary genius to choose one among the 2.thankfully all that option 1 offers is free.Option2 is free too but you have to pay the price for it:)

I can hear you breathe but are you living?

In.out.O2 in, CO2 out.fine.but is that all?why is that giant within still lying dormant?isn't the kumbakaranas resting period over?Shouldn't he be awake by now?No alarm clock is loud enough to wake him up- for his sleep is a convinient pretension not a real sleep at all.The breathing is there while asleep too but imagine the miracles possible if you choose to really live instead.can't you imagine the claps and whistles and bankbalance and laughter and dance and the songs?Ofcourse the small print reads Heavy sweating zone!Be prepared.

"FEAR NOTHING"

Absoultely nothing.Ghosts, future, failure, exams, marriage everything scares you right?Put a brake on it right away.Fear is natural warning system-asking you to be alert ..that's it..nothing more.Look back and you will realise nothing you feared before really came true and even if it did it was not as catroustrophic as you had initially imagined! Right? So why worry unnecessarily?Fear means you need small adjustment in your belief system and you need to undertand the issue more.Clearly nothing is to be feared only understood better.:)So Fear Nothing!

TODAY IS FIRST DAY OF REST OF UR LIFE!

I saw this slogan DadaSahebPalke winner K.Balanchader office.!Right now u can decide to change ,somersault, shift gears and do what you think is BETTER way to do things .Surely you don't see "No U turn allowed"board anywhere in life. This minute is the starting line for ROL(rest of life)race.Surge ahead. You can!You will.

JBN

That's the secret of goodwill and popularity.JBN-Just Be Nice.A sincere smile, few pleasant exchanges, wishing and meaning well cost us nothing but the dividends are better than the best blue chips in stock market.JBN is the main fuel my career is zooming on.You should try it too:)Its a tank which refills on its own and gives you great mileage.Next time your temper or your ego or the other guys sheer stupidity brings out the 'Rude' You, resist. There's a nicer person inside who can handle it better.Give him a chance and watch JBN magic:)

Hey I met god.He looks like u!

After 1000 visits to temple, sunday church visits, friday namazas annual pilgrimages to holy shrines I woke up to the truth.I met Him.Shook hands.Surprisingly he had only 2 hands not 4!He looked very very familiar.Yes!Got it.He looks like You, my friend -exactly like You.. mmm...But then not exactly. He is You minus your anger. He is You minus your big Ego.He is You with all love you are capable of.He does look like you my pal:)

Isn't it a desert without humour?

Thar,Sahara,Arctic circle-All massive lands -Where nothing grows!Something similar happens in a few big people who take life too seriously.Growth stops.Chill yaar! LoL Nothing like laughter to oil the life machine.Nothing like a comic who makes your eyes wet laughing.Nothing like giggle filled conversation with friends. They told you life is a stage right. You are a standup comedian.Get your punches right Bozo:)

Life is a beach!

Put your bikini on.You are worried about your figure?99 percent of homosapiens look that way.The lucky 1 percent -forget them. They are too busy looking at themselves and they miss the point. So the whole beach is yours!Wade,Swim,Run,Sroll.Wear Coolers and simply relax .Tsunamis rarely come.
"Whatever it is this too shall pass."
This is the single answer to all #Qs in the world claims a royal tale.So true! The impermeance of everything is striking and yet we refuse to admit it.The tears, the fears, the claps, the slaps, the laughs the coughs everything has an inbuilt expiry date.Yet the blindness to it is convinient to us.We charge ahead on and on and on.Ignorance is bliss. And we shall wake up with a thud.

Kushi is just one thought away.

Your favorite girl, your favorite song, the adult sms you received this morn, your kids innocent remark, your boss's praise ,a thank u note u received, your sugarlevel showing normal,a lovely meal anything can simply elevate your mood from distress to everest. All that is needed is a small gear shift. To jump from this gloomy dark suffocating compartment to the happy breezy ac compartment which is just just one thought away.Kush ho dukhatma:)
Life is a box of ferro roche!indulge!
I just "branded" forest gumps famous line. You are not just someone.you are a brand. You are not just choclate.you are ferro roche. Not just dark and tasty but wrapped in gold foil and terric package.!How dare anyone mistake you for just choclate?!You may taste the same ,made of same cocoa and sugar but the packing and marketing makes you truly international. No world traveller will miss you on his shopping list because you are ferroroche:)And sadly heat melts ferroroche too!

Refresh ur brain.think nonsense:)

AsWfKTSgQHyCOCcznmrXG try reading that and you will know what I mean. All our life we seek order logic in everything we see hear and most importantly in things that happen to us.For once let go off this .match the wrong pieces on the jigsaw puzzle. The picture obviously is going to make no sense but I bet its gonna be pretty colorful. It will be like sitting on a chair with knees allowing upward bend. But then how do you sit on chair where feet doesn't touch the ground.ofcourse elephants can fly!I saw them while travelling on beam of light .,XDgr(aqSGBgku.

Its no F_N without U:)

.Imagine the s-nset with lo-d m-sic and y-mmy m-nchies and h-gs.
Without U its sort of incomplete. On second thoughts..
-mag-ne the sunset w-th loud mus-c and yummy munch-es and hugs.
Oh ...mmm..m so its incomplete without U or I.Together we rock U and I:)

Why stare at the steps?Stepup the stairs.!

Some big guy said those wow words. From taking autographs to signing them, from clapping to bowing to claps, from desiring to desired, the transition awaits. From circumference to centre of attraction. Why stairs ,an elevator awaits you.Action is the switch.Switch to action.

Talk and walk the talk!

Abhishek asked you to walk while talking right? For a mobile ad.Better idea sirji would be "walk the talk".better yet not only walk, swim, run.jump, leap, dance, sing in short breathe the talk.Greatest peace is when what you think, speak and act are exactly same.Even a small mismatch between the three and stress results big time.So go back to beginning Talk and walk the talk:)

Chill! No demands.No complaints!

Isn't everyone a mobile complaint box?every time anyone opens their mouth complaints flood out -some direct, some indirect .I guess its just wishful thinking that there is a better world possible and your complaints are oral bursts to pull others to Your version of the world,Your way things should be done!Your ideal way to handle it!How stupid of him not to realise beauty of your wonderful world .Unfortunately the opposite guy has a world of his own too.Pity the worlds are not xerox copies of each other and so he goes ahead in his style of things.what else can you do? complain...

Wen was lasttime u did something fr first time?!

Fab ad line I saw.

Remember the first kiss, first fight, first claps, first fall, first tears, first stage fear?and then we mastered the art.sheer practice.repitition killed the virgin emotion.thrill is gone.So the second best option try something you haven't yet!Write,Paint,Paraglide, bungee jump.river raft, snorkel anything new or better yet just be nice.forget your old rude self.enjoy the new virgin feeling of being liked-by all.

NRI kannadigas rock!

When I went to Manchester to attend their diwali celebrations, it was sheer joy watching their kids in davanis, chota saris, traditional Indian wear dancing to kannada songs. Even kids who have grownup all their lives on foreign soil, eagerly joined their parents in celebrating the spirit of karnataka.

As a part of my entertainment section I asked the crowd " what do you miss most about karnataka?"

The replies were funny,thought provoking,nostalagic...

"Tunga river bank"
"Vidyarthibhavan masala dosa"
"Bellary heat"
"BTS bus travel"
"Grandma"

The interaction with audience was full of fun, laughter & gaiety.

Later during dinner, a lady approached me and asked "You didnt ask me what I miss about karnataka".. Munching delicious puris I replied" I am all ears, go ahead and tell me".

"I miss the the charandis and mosquitoes of Banglore. UK is too sanitised for me."

Before I could try and tell her the days of open charandis and mosquitoes are over in our city she raced ahead.

"I miss walking in overcrowded GandhiBazar uneven footpath. I miss bargaining for that 50 paisa from vegetable vendor. I miss the Rangoli in front of my house.

...The list went on and on and it was clear she was very very homesick. She ended her wishlist with an absoulte shocker " I often wonder why I left India. I feel I am in open air jail now. No jailor,no jail uniform but jail all the same".

Her remark drew attention of a few more who agreed with her. I was moved by the story of a parent who had painstakingly made elaborate arrangements for her 8 yr olds' birthday and had invited all British kids in the neighbourhood. No one turned up. The kid and mom looked so heart broken while narrating the incident.

"My husband is so dedicated as a doctor and so successful but even after 7 yrs his acheivements are looked with suspicion" opened up another.
Amidst all these disturbing stories ,I heard a confident voice" I have been here for 32 yrs. My husband and I have absolutely no problems professionally or personally. The issue is not this place or its people, the issue is your mind. You cant let go of your memories."

"Why should we?" pat came the reply in chorus, and the arguments went on and on. I excused myself on the pretext of picking up a jamoon.

But the arguments remain in the NRI world. To miss homeland is one thing ,to lament and lose joy is another. Afterall "Home is where the heart is."

With all the emotional turmoils in them, the acheivements of NRI kannadigas worldover is awesome. They retain their karnataka roots and leave global footprints.

Hail NRI kannadigas!!

"I was in khaki uniform happily attending Engineering course when Geethapriyaji and K.Balachander felt I could be an actor and made me one. Then I was doing small and bit roles when "Madumasa" Narayanswami and" Panchamaveda "Viswanath felt I could handle the lead role and made me a hero.I continued as a hero and I was happily dancing around trees when Kamalhassan told me I will make a good director and RamaShaMaBhama happened.
So...on thinking back...whatever the minor talents I had came to light through someone else and through the opportunities they created to showcase my talent.

These good souls..people who wish you well and want to see you in higher position matter a lot to you and me and our lives.
For a moment lets forget this faboulous function ,this award ,everything.
Just go inside yourself.Think who really is your wellwisher.Who is the person kwho wants to see you in a higher plane than you are now?silently thank them right from here.It could be your mom, dad, wife, friend, guru whoever. They will be glad you thought of them..

I dont know whom you are thinking of but...

I am thinking of YOU...everyone of you...each one of you here..
Because YOU are my real wellwishers.YOU are the ones who made this journey possible.I am what I am because of you all.
Thanks for all the love. This award Is rightfully Yours.

We are all aware that the world is turning into a huge microwave oven. We know coastlines are reducing, the fish are developing cancer, some species are going to be extinct soon. We know our planet is being threatened big time by our own foolishness. We also try to repair it. Governments all over the world encourage better, more fuel efficient cars. Renewable energy, biodegradable stuff, less carbon emissions are order of the day. With all these universally common steps ahead what's one step which will make a giant difference to existing measures?

I think the answer lies in an casual exchange I had with a chinese doctor who visited my home.

and now the Chinese doctor story....

A couple of doctor trainees from china had come to Banglore to exchange ideas with my cardiac surgeon friend Dr.Javli. He asked if I could have dinner with one of them. I gladly called the gentleman home.

He was amicable and nice but had problem with English. He carried an electronic translator and would form his thoughts into English slowly using the gadget. He slowly, very very slowly, asked me three questions.

1)" British have left why do you still have Victoria statue near Cubbon park?"
I tried to escape replying and managed "Just a fond memory of our great victory over the British rule.

He got busy on translating machine for next few mins and formed his next thought in English.

2)"Why all Indian films same same?"
This was a question which bothers me too all the time.
"I feel so too.High time we get away from boy meets girl, bad ma in law, good hearted rowdy to more varied subjects" I said hoping he got my language.
His third question was an eye opener.

3) "Why is your home so clean but streets so dirty?"
I could not answer right away as he had poked at the right point.
The answer is in the query itself.
The trick is to treat your street as your home.
We seem to see the street ,area, locality, state, country as something different from our homes. That is the main problem. Why not have the biggest home ever- the city of Banglore ?and you naturally keep it tidy and clean because it is your home!

I repeat this story to all Kid's I address as brand ambassador of CMCA which aims to keep Banglore,Hubli,Mysore clean and green.
Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Apr24.Dr.Raj's birthday. All channels were telecasting programmes about him.Etv wanted me to do my bit and were kind enough to allow me creative liberty.I had a tangential idea. The final telecasted episode had me and a bunch of kids talking cheerfully about Dr.Raj.

"Did Annavaru eat ice-cream ever?"one kid would ask.
"Of course. He was as human as me and you" I would say showing pic of Dr.Raj licking a ice-cream cone in a book.

"Is it true he didn't know difference between a 100re note and a 500 re one?"
"Of course he did but was not enamoured by money " I would say narrating incident relating to it.In-between the conversation I would tell the camera "There is a deep connection between my little friends here on show and Dr.Raj,which we will discuss after sometime".I would keep postponing the revealing of the exact connection till almost end of programme .After discussing interesting incidents from the legend's life I broke the suspense.
The connection was this-All these kids were blind a couple of days back. Some one had decided to donate his or her eyes after demise, which were transplanted to these kids to get their sight back .!

A few days back they lived in a dark world. Now they could see me and the camera and Dr.Raj photos on the wall and the whole beautiful world!!!
"Dr.Raj donating his eyes was the lesson I liked in his life and want to follow.I like his simplicity, his family oriented films, his diction of Kannada, his humility.I would love to follow him in these respects.Choose one quality you like in any great man and try to imbibe it.That's the best tribute to pay the man"
I ended the prog on above note.

09 June 2011

It was nearing sunset time. We were on promotional tour of my film "Venkata in Sankata" in city of Mysore. After the press meet we accepted invitation from a friend to visit an International school nearby.By the time we reached, darkness was beginning to settledown. The high school students warmly cheered and welcomed us with flowers, artwork and wide smiles.I was asked to address a big room full of eager kids from all parts of India.I was not prepared but entertained them with few jokes,one-liners and dialogues from my film. The giggles and laughter looked brighter than the tube lights of the crammed room.Suddenly there was a power shut down.
How do you keep a roomful of noisy teenagers in a perfectly dark room entertained?

I had an interesting idea.
I said"Now guys, here is an opportunity to understand the world of blind. This is how it looks. Can you feel their world?"
The giggles and noise dampened suddenly.
"Do you hear the footsteps of your school watchman at a distance.?"
The strained their ears and seemed to notice it.
"Do you hear the wind whistle through gaps of your classroom window hinges?"
The silence was deafening. The sight of innocent clear faces sober with a discovery of new truth was so satisfying.
"Does the sound of wings flapping of bird overhead reach you now?"
"Do you see the world the way blind see it?"was my next question.
I thought I saw my producer Naren's eyes wet for a second even in the darkness.

The students, the teachers, everyone in the room and me in particular found a sudden new understanding of how we take for granted all the wonderful gifts we have unasked.
The rest of time went with each one discussing the new sounds we hear if we listen truly.Everyone spoke almost in whispers,in controlled well measured voices, words and tone. There was no claps at end,no noisy exits but a beautiful silent satisfying tearful goodbye .
Of course it was still dark when we left.

"Follow your Heart" - A talk by Ramesh Aravind. Speaking to a young crowd on Acting as a profession...

Hi there!. Yellarigu Namaskara! Are you guys going to be so "Sober & serious?" Let' have some fun here. I'll start off with Naanu matthe Mr. Prabhudeva my previous speaker!
There's this film called Hrudaya Hrudaya. It's a Kannada film, where I play a cardiac surgeon. I cut open Shivrajkumar's heart, take it out!, and place it in Anu Prabhakar's heart. The whole operation is the climax of the film. I'm sweating, giving all the expressions.. and all that this doctor goes through, and all along there were a couple of other guys doing it. It was just my face, we took stock of his hand, doing the operation, and it was me, acting on the face.. all that effort etc! Thanks for that sir!

So, what I'm trying to tell you, is that: I dont know how to read temperature on a thermometer.. but I've done a Heart surgery!!. That's what an actor does!! I dont know so many things in my life, but I've done everything... Thanks to Cinema!. Thanks to the Acting!. And that's the greatest thing about being an actor!. You live everybody's life!, I can promise you that. Everybody in the society, You have one instalment of their life in your life, which is the greatest thing about being an actor. I'll tell you, all of you who want to get into acting, do it like that!. You'll be a businessman one day, You'll be a beggar the other day, You'll be a Heart surgeon on the third day! You'll be a teacher on the fourth day, you'll be a journalist
You can be Everything!!. That's the greatest thing about acting..And I promise you, with due apologies to all of you professionals here ... It is "THE BEST" profession in the world. There's a small print below it, which I will talk about later :) Every job has a small print, and that's the way it goes, but it is the best profession. You can take my word for it! there's a small print, but we'll talk about it later!

Why did I take to this profession?. I go to the best places in the world. The best places in the world. I've seen it with my own eyes. It's not like, when somebody else goes and comes back. I go there!, dance with a very pretty girl.. I stay there for 3 days. I've enjoyed it thoroughly. I meet the best people in the world. It's on the platter for you. If you're an actor, you'll meet the Kings, the princes, the chief ministers, the governors, you name it... you meet them!. When Sachin Tendulkar hits a world cup century and there's a dinner for it, you're there! tweeting... Wonderful things happen when you become an actor! You go to the best places, you meet the best people, you do the best things, and then there's this wonderful job of getting a role!

There's this great feeling of devoting, things you never did!. I've never seen a person who's been hit by tragedy in my life!. I'll tell you honestly! Somebody close to me has not died!, so far, thankfully!, but I've done it so many times in my films!!. I've married hundreds of girls in my films. You go through so many emotions as an actor!. Being in a place like that, here comes the small print, which comes in later...

Let's say you want to become an actor. How does one become an actor?. I'll tell you a story, of a boy, there's a story to that...this boy was probably of your age. He was on a stage like this...
and he performed a skit on the stage, there was a lady sitting there, who was the judge of the event, and she said this is very good, can you do it on the radio?, and he said ya I can do it! He went to the radio and did the same skit. She liked it. Her friend came there, to ask if he could do it on the TV. She said ya this guy's good, Can you do it on TV?, and he said ya I can do it on TV!. And that guy did it on Television...and that came on a diwali day!, on diwali day film people dont shoot!so film people are happily watching TV at home, and saying "who's this guy?" . He looks interesting, . and that guy got three flms on the same day , because of one TV programme. This guy was not aware of cinema. Some director calls him & says do you act? and he had said ya!. He got three films. One film, two films and three films later, the man has now done 145 films as a Hero!. All because of one skit he did on stage... and you want to know who that guy is?

It's me. Thank you!

What I'm trying to tell you here is: This is how you become an Actor!. There is no rule! God knows how somebody becomes an actor! There is no pattern. This is my journey. There's going to be another journey for Shivrajkumar, another journey for Ravichandran, one for Mr. Amitabh Bachchan, and one for Shahrukh Khan. There is no single route which says here's where you start, go straight, take a left turn and reach the dead end, and take a left there, and you become a Super Star!. NO!. It simply doesnt work this way!! Art itself doesnt work this way!. We have some fine co-stars, we have some huge stars!, but nobody knows where you'll land!
So with this let me tell you, if you want to be an actor - first of all! is that your basic aptitude is good - I hope you've not overestimated yourself!. If you have the right estimate, and if you think you can do it, Just jump onto the bandwagon. I'll tell you again, it's a great line. There are schools here, great schools here which teach you acting, and then about getting an offer is something which works for different people in different ways. The way I work, as a director, the way I cast is: I go to a drama, I see somebody who's good. I know this will hit with the audience! somebody I can connect!, I dont know who this guys is!. I cast people just like that! I see, I go to a radio station, I see the radio jockey talking. I like the way he utters his words, I like the way he gossips.. I just bring him, and I cast him!. That's the way I work!, as a director..

There are various ways, a director casts an actor. It's each one to his own!. There's no secret at it, No preparation goes on! There are wonderful things on the internet. The internet is such a great tool, for all of you who want to know about acting or direction.. about movie making, just go onto it.... So, what I say is "Acting is a great profession!", now here's the small print!
If this is the best job in the world, then the small print says: If you are successful! If you're not, then I am so sorry. I've seen such sad stories in my life! I've seen such sad stories. It's...it's horrifying!. I got my first film.. my real break came 10 years later.. On the 10th year, you hear about actors making lakhs of rupees, crores of rupees.. I got my first lakh after 10 years!!, and that year what happened was, nine films of mine, nine films!, one after the other, ran for 100 days! It was something I could not believe!. 10 years was no magic, there was no success, and suddenly one year, one film ran for 100 days, followed by another for 100 days, and nine films for 100 days, and it becomes something which we cannot stop, but having gone back... in the 9th year, this is what happened! So I don't know what made me stay!. I just felt I could make it here! it's just my heart telling me, that it's going to happen!. It takes some time. I was getting comfortable here. I was enjoying my job!, so it was my gut feeling!, and I finally gave in!
and after that, another 15 years I've been here!. So what I'm trying to tell you is: Only if you're successful, the acting job is good!, and how do you do this successfully, that's a big mystery!nobody can tell!, in cinema how you can do it successfully. I've seen some people who are much more talented much more intense than me, who have not made it! I've seen some much lesser guys, who've made it much bigger. So this is the equation. I want you to be prepared for it, if you're coming into art, mainly cinema. So about the small print, I have this wonderful little poem, which translates like this:

See there's a big door called "Success", Huge door!, Fat door!. So it's success, you open the door, you get inside, you're successful, and there's a basketful of keys, just in front of the door, you go for the key. One guy comes, takes the key, opens the door... It opens for him!, the first time he opens the door it's success for him!. He's a lucky guy, he get's inside! Success!. There's another guy who comes, and keeps on trying, one key, a second key, the third key, the 100th key! it opens for him!. For some people get success by being patient!. there's a lesson here!. perseverance in the job... There's a third guy who comes & says... Hey I don't need a key, I have muscles, he just breaks in! There are guys who use muscle power to get success! There's this fourth guy who comes & says, I don't even need the key!! I have a hairpin!. I will get this, and he opens the door!. Intelligence is the sure way to success!. Unfortunately, for cinema, the door does not open from outside.. however much you try! the door opens from inside. It is the audience who opens it for you .... they open the door and say come "I like you". So it is ultimately the audience who decides your fortune, your bank balance, your status, your stardom. "EVERYTHING"!. The door in cinema opens from inside!. I want you to be prepared for this, if you want to become an actor!.

OK so much for being an actor!, but I still insist. If you're a guy who has this capability, who is confident, who is willng to work really hard, really hard!, I'm telling you, cinema will look very glamorous, and very very very starry!, but it is sheer hard work. It's one hell of hard work!
It's not about cinema, it's not about acting or directing ... What I'm telling you is: In all humility... When I was studying, I was 7th rank in SSLC, in all humility, it's not about me, it's not at all about me. My percentage in 2nd PU was 98.6. In spite of it, I did not go an become an engineer!. In spite of my academic background, I did not do what my friends did. Somehow, something told me that this is what I've to do!. It was purely a thing of the heart but my only message here is that.. it has a very very clear indication, your heart tells you what to do!. You just have to listen, listen listen!. You get confused! All of us go through one period of confusion... When I joined UVCE, the first 3 months I hated that place. I said to myself "What the hell" Why do I need to this, I dont like this place, I dont want to be an engineer, but then by the 3rd month what happened was, they put me as head of a speech troupe, the speech troupe was first in the competition, and that gave me sudden confidence. Suddenly the college became a very nice place, to me!. So it may happen after 3 months. There is going to be a small part of adjustment, in whichever job you choose, and then the same place may become heaven!. Dont be crazy about it, but the heart definitely tells you what to do!, if you listen!. What I'm saying is: Something which you are comfortable with, more than anything else!. Now, what we mean here is, something that defines your job, something you are happy about!. What happens in job is: Whatever job you take tomorrow, one day you'll be sick.. on that day, you have to go to office! The job should be so interesting, that however sick you are, you again go to office!. You ask me to wait... The next morning 4'0 clock I'm ready for shooting. Because the job excites me so much!. So, I want you to choose a job, which excites you so much, that on the day, you have a big problem, blood pressure etc, but still you want to go and do your job!. That is the kind of job you take up, which you really love, really love!, and you'll be successful!. Whatever the job is!. I've seen people who've become millionaires by just collecting garbage! You can become a millionaire by doing anything!, as long as you love your job!, and you''ll be a pauper if you're doing it because somebody is forcing you to do it!. Money is there in every field, fame is there in every field, give it your best shot!, with your heart!!

Go by it!.

If you are travelling Middle East make it a point to visit Sur beach at night .Its 2 hrs from Muscat.

My sister had arranged for a few of us to to visit it on a "special experience promised"tagline.

When my wife Archana and kids Arjun and Niharika reached the lonely beach around 9pm ,a group of eager tourists from all over the world had already assembled there ,below a huge 'Silent Zone' board. After initial formalities the Arab guide took us near the seashore, ".shhh",shhing all along. With absolutely no lights ,except a small torch in the guide's hand ,the night looked darker than normal.Stumbling our way through we finally got to see the wonder ahead.

In the pitch darkness huge shadowy creatures slowly crept onto the sandy beach from the sea.The sea turtles! They were returning to the same beach after forty odd years.! This time they were visiting to lay their eggs in the same place they were born!.Strange are ways of nature you think and stranger things happen.

The pregnant turtle slowly walks a furlong on beach to find a suitable spot.
With it's front flappers it digs a shallow one feet radius circular trench and slumps inside.

With the back flapper it digs a narrow well one foot deep at the back end.
Then it drops eggs one after another into the well.
In the beam of torchlight you can see table tennis ball sized slimy eggs falling in tens inside the well.

Having laid the eggs the tired mother covers the well, crawls ten meters ahead and creates a fake well -To deceive the crabs and foxes who are eagerly looking for turtle eggs to eat.

With it's duty done the mother turtle goes back into sea.
That's just one part of the story.

The guide then searches around for new borns from hatched eggs of previous set. After a few unsuccessful trials we got to see them- small helpless newborns ,about our index finger long, out in the world with no idea of where to head. They look here and there trying to find their way to ocean.
Their first day in this world.
No dad in sight. No mom in sight.
Foxes and crabs ready to devour them.
Thankfully the planktons near the water emit a little light ,which seems to be nature's way of showing them the sea and they rush.
Some infants miss the idea and walk opposite side of sea only to get trampled by tourists or run over by jeeps or eaten by predators.
But the successful few,who escape the hungry enemies, reach the sea and jump in enthusiastically.

We are told they will slowly but surely grow in to huge turtles find their mates and come back to same beach to lay eggs after decades of underwater trips around the globe sometimes reaching Australia and back.

Now just thankGod for our lives.Thank god you and I were not born similar to those young ones. When we were born there was someone to feed us,someone to clothe us,someone to listen and respond to every cry of ours.Later someone joined us in school.Someone taught us math and science and languages. We surely had lot of help growing up .Unlike the ' first day -no dad no mom' scenario of sea turtle kids, we have had so much support.
Aren't we privileged to get so much help?Isn't it right to feel grateful and whisper a thanks to all those who mattered. We are we today because of them!

Best thing about staying in Sun n Sand in Mumbai is the beautiful beach it opens to.You can see typical mumbaites walking early morning.I saw 4 old men forming a rectangle ,playing frisbee and not drop it even once in the whole walk.Sweating ladies being dragged by huge dogs was a common sight. One old man was walking reverse to check his neural coordination perhaps. But the most curious sight was a row of boards, each planted a few feet away from other using bamboo twigs as support in sand, each carrying an arresting thought scribbled on it."New day deserves new thinking" screamed the first one followed by equally good thoughts one after another.I was wondering the purpose behind such an effort on a beach.
Next morn ,on my walk,I caught this simple man, dressed in a dhoti, pushing the boards into sand, looking left right to check their row alignment ,move his bicycle ten feet away and start with the next one."Take care of your parents.it's your sacred duty"was written on it.I thought It made more more sense talking to this man than walk .To hell with the calories.
"Where are you from.?"I asked.
"Wherever you are from".He replied.
"I mean do you have an ashram?"
"Yes.This glorious one."he said pointing to himself.
I smiled and asked" Is anyone else with you?"
"Yes.You and he and he and she and that dog ".He pointed to everyone walking there.
"The whole world is with me."He chuckled.
Drawn further by the above cinema dialogue kind of conversation,I continued talking to him.
"What are you trying to do?Do you think a few boards on beach will change mindsets.?"
"When they walk they can't help reading it and a few of them may start thinking on these lines. It's a signal they will pickup and it will avalanche into action sometime later."
"What is your message actually "I asked.
"I have 3 simple truths to share."
My curiosity got better of me and I was all ears.
"One-take care of your body and soul. That's why I chose beach where walkers who have already realised the importance of healthy body will hopefully extend it to healthy mind too."
"Fine,the second ?"
"No one in the entire world thinks like you.Your thinking is unique .This being the case with the opposite person too,why do you expect anyone to agree with you ?Just allow them their choice and you will be the happiest. This applies to husband wife, boss employee, friends and all relationships."
I agreed enthusiastically ." And the third.?"
"There are some useless lazy fellows who refuse to work and ask for your alms and help.Forget them. But there are a few unlucky ones ,who inspite of their good intentions, honest efforts fail and do not get their due.Help such people who deserve our help."He smiled.
I found all three observations valid.
I bid him goodbye and continued walking with a new vigour.
I turned back and saw him planting the next board with rapt attention,
It said"Love is the only religion"
